Job Description
Tata Electronics is looking for an experienced Quality Engineer who can manage quality performance across Surface Mount Technology-based manufacturing and assembly operations.
The primary objective of this role is to maintain stable manufacturing processes, prevent defects, improve first-pass yield, reduce rejection rates, and ensure that products meet internal specifications as well as customer quality requirements.
The Quality Engineer will be closely involved with SMT production lines and will monitor process parameters, inspection results, defect trends, rework, scrap, and manufacturing performance.

Job Responsibilities
- Take responsibility for end-to-end quality performance of assigned SMT manufacturing and assembly lines.
- Monitor first-pass yield, DPPM, defect rates, rework levels, and other manufacturing quality indicators.
- Ensure that SMT production processes remain within approved specifications and defined process windows.
- Monitor production line startup, changeovers, and regular production runs for quality compliance.
- Implement and maintain manufacturing process controls.
- Work with Control Plans, PFMEA, SPC, and other quality assurance tools.
- Identify recurring defects and implement preventive measures.
- Investigate soldering defects, component placement issues, polarity errors, orientation problems, handling defects, and inspection failures.
- Perform structured root cause analysis using methods such as 5-Why analysis and Fishbone diagrams.
- Use engineering data and statistical methods to identify manufacturing issues.
- Coordinate with SMT inspection systems including SPI, AOI, AXI, X-ray, visual inspection, and end-of-line testing.
- Ensure inspection programs and acceptance criteria are properly defined and validated.
- Improve inspection effectiveness and reduce unnecessary false rejection.
- Handle internal non-conformances and manufacturing rejects.
- Lead containment actions when quality issues are detected.
- Develop and implement corrective and preventive actions.
- Verify the effectiveness of corrective actions before closure.
- Support Material Review Board decisions and product disposition processes.
- Participate in New Product Introduction activities.
- Review and update PFMEA and Control Plans during new product launches.
- Support pilot production builds and manufacturing ramp-up activities.
- Participate in qualification of SMT tooling, stencils, fixtures, and manufacturing equipment.
- Support process validation and equipment approval activities.
- Analyse daily and periodic quality data.
- Prepare defect Pareto analysis and monitor scrap and rework trends.
- Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly quality reports.
- Present quality performance and improvement opportunities to relevant teams.
- Participate in continuous improvement projects.
- Support incoming quality issues involving PCBs, electronic components, solder paste, and other production materials.
- Coordinate with Supplier Quality teams for supplier-related defect investigation.
- Support corrective action verification for supplier quality issues.
- Ensure manufacturing activities comply with required quality management standards.
- Support internal, customer, and certification audits.
- Train SMT operators, technicians, and engineers on quality requirements.
- Ensure proper adherence to SOPs, work instructions, ESD controls, and visual quality standards.
